WATERPROOFING
There are many different types of waterproofing products, from hot fluid applications to bentonite waterproofing. With over 20 years of experience, D&R Masonry Restoration has the technical knowhow to install the right product for the individual application, big or small.
From the Mathew Night Arena on the University of Oregon campus to existing structures like the World Trade Center in downtown Portland, D&R Masonry Restoration has provided these services to hundreds of structures in the Pacific Northwest and Western United States.
With the Matthew Night Arena project, we put multiple types of waterproofing in place for the most effective result. The D&R Masonry Restoration team installed a staggering 55,000 square feet of bentonite, 75,000 square feet of hot rubber waterproofing, 52,000 square feet of waterproofing, 125,000 square feet of Blue Skin, and 40,000 linear feet of caulking. Many of these products will actually serve multiple purposes, including saving on heating and cooling costs, stopping air leakage, helping ward against condensation and mold, and protecting concrete from erosion. We used a “Blind Side Waterproofing System” for the arena floor and lag wall to ensure successful water leak prevention some of the most important locations. Later we also put waterproofing in University of Oregon’s PK Park to help keep the playing grounds dry for baseball season.
With each and every project we take care to use the right techniques for the job. If you know you need waterproofing but aren’t sure exactly what’s required, no problem! We’ve done countless projects over the years, have a variety of key resources and methods, and are happy to work with you to give you exactly what you need.
Here are some of the different types of waterproofing services we offer to keep your property safe and secure:
Bentonite:
Bentonite waterproofing is unusual in that it uses clay (specifically bentonite) for below grade projects. The clay can absorb a tremendous amount of moisture, which means that as the substance takes in water and grows, it actually gets even better and stronger by forming an impressive barrier. As it expands it fits into spalls.
Bentonite is not just useful for construction – if you own cats, you may be surprised to know that bentonite is in cat litter!
Hot Rubber:
Hot rubberized liquid asphalt is helpful for completely coating large surfaces in one bonded layer. It is often used for places like plaza decks and roofing and is a particularly nice cosmetic choice since it looks level and sleek.
Blue Skin:
Blue skin waterproofing is another form of rubberized asphalt compound. As its name suggests, this form of waterproofing acts like “blue skin” because the compound is installed using thin rolls of blue film.
Caulking:
Caulking is very important to help make sure potential water entrances into your site are cleanly sealed off. There are numerous different types of caulking that fit different needs, including: construction and residential grade silicone, polyurethane/expandable spray foam, water-based foam sealants, butyl rubber, latex, and oil or resin. Each type works with specific properties. Some work well for both exterior and interior large cracks, while others are best used for locations such as windows and door frames.
